Vinegar has many wonderful uses, besides salad dressings...
It's one of those exciting things that once you realize one wonderful thing its good for, you just can't stop!
Another great thing is its cheap! And the cheapest brand you can find works just as great! I like things cheap. That do more things than one thing.. I also like cheap things that work better and safer than the expensive stuff. The less chemicals I can surround myself with, the better! More on that in another post! :)
As for now... grab your vinegar, maybe crack some windows (until it dries) and let's go!
*-*-*-DISCLAIMER! Not that I think its necessary but its just one of those things. Use my advice at your own risk. I am not an expert. I am a self educator! I learn by trial and error. I have never had any bad experiences with vinegar, but use my advice with slight caution, that freak accidents do sometimes happen. Test these solutions in small quantities in small areas first. If at first you don't succeed, aka fail, don't try again! With that warning, I wish you luck! More money in your pocket! Less chemicals in your household! And some joyous scientific moments! :)
FABRIC SOFTNER: You heard me! Fabric softner! Not only will it clean up your gunky washing machine, it'll soften your clothes as well!
*This is great for those with sensitive skin! Like myself ;)
*Your clothes will NOT smell like vinegar once washed and dried. I promise.
*It prevents fading and doesn't leave a film like other softeners. Your dark load will thank me! It will also help brighten whites :) and... its great for towels! Ironically, you're NOT supposed to use fabric softener on towels. The film left behind decreases the towels absorbency. I know that sounds nuts, but I've worked and been trained in textiles. Read those labels!
*It's waaaaay cheaper than the store bought stuff :)
SOFT SCRUB: Again... cheaper AND decreasing chemical use, again :) Mix it with baking soda to the paste consistency that makes you giddy, and depending on what I'm cleaning, add a squirt or two of your favorite dish soap. Now grab a sponge, I like the half sponge/ half greenie, and get to scrubing!
*works great on kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks (and the tub!), helps get rid of hard water spots, excellent on stove tops, whitens grout in tile right up! Oh the places you will... Scrub? ;)
*In my opinion this works way better, and is way safer than any chemical filled cleaning gump.
SUNBURNS: Ok, this one is a little smellier, for a little longer. I'll admit that. Vinegar is an awesome skin ph balance nuetralizer. That's why it is suggested as first choice by doctors as a feminine douche (sorry guys!). Just soak a towel in vinegar, wring it out if needed, and gently lay it on the sunburn. The effects are crazy! Helped my mom do this on her upper back years ago, and where the vinegar ran from the towel, you could see it soothing parts of her skin.
*Obviously, test a small patch of skin first to test for allergies, you never know!
*My advice, leave it on for atleast 15-30 minutes, depending on your tolerance to the smell :)
*Rinse with luke warm to cool water.
GLASS CLEANER: Guess what? Yet again... cheaper and decreasing your use of chemicals, yet again! :) Mix one part vinegar, one part water, and one part alcohol in a clean spray bottle, recycle one if you can. Use your choice of towel, clother or paper. I like cloth. Reuseable, and if you get the right one (or a few!), they're less streaky than paper as well. And again... CHEAPER! Better for the environment as well! :)
